500SL New Twin system to replace old Pig Iron .

My 1982 500SL needs a new muffler, and I would like to know if its possible to get rid of the old pig iron muffler and pipes and replace with twin pipes, fitting a pipe either side of the rear end like most late model mercedes have .

No doubt I would have to modify the rear skirt to have a new space for the new pipe on the right hand side of the rear , but can this idea be done , or is it a bad move .

I would like to have twin oval pipes one each side .

Has it been done on a R107 , can be done .

Comments would be appreciated .

Den Downunder .

i think you will

find that the exhaust fits into areas recessed up into the body work and the rear valance will be the least of your worries in rerouting a second pipe. on the other hand you might be able to run two pipes side by side and use one muffler in the middle on one sysetm and a second muffler on the other at the rear. or there are some muffs out there with two inlets and two outlets.
