Idea?
I just mentioned this thread to the MB technician rebuilding my 119 motor (he drives a 500E too!). He feels that this stalling phenomenon is most likely a dirty throttle plate - as they become dirty over time, they adapt in order to let enough air into the engine. However, eventually they approach their adjustment limit, and in a hard turn (like a u-turn) there's simply no more adjustment that can be made to adapt to that situation.
The fix involves removing the MAF and cleaning the throttle plate. With that done, re-assemble everything and turn the car to the "on" position, but do NOT start it - wait 20-30 seconds until you hear some loud clicking sounds from under the hood (leave the hood raised during all of this) which indicates that the throttle plate's re-setting itself. Please advise if this helps - good luck to all!

I hope that I will be able to post some good news, this time SAT evening.
I pray to the Gods of Crankshaft Position Sensors that they will have mercy upon me and grant me clemency after these years of torture. ; ) Last edited by run.exe; 04-09-2004 at 12:32 PM. |

Scott,
Good Luck. Also, the back of the Mercedes Benz E Class owners guide has a troubleshooting guide that includes a couple of entries for intermittent stalling. Check it out if you have not yet. Willy

Though the misery continues for Scott, I can now positively say my stalling issue is 100% gone. :crossing fingers:
![]() I have been testing this for about 1 week, and I have had no stalling or little engine that coulda-shoulda-woulda syndromes. ![]() All that was replaced was the TBA and CPS. Not sure which or if both fixed the problem. The TBA definetly needed replacement as it was cauaing other problems, and the CPS was throwing codes and was a cheap fix, so I figure what the heck. ![]() |

Run.exe !
Any of the technicians looked at the operation of The Idle Speed Actuator, this unit may apear to work at times but in actual fact is not working properly at all. Usually resulting in low idle speed and stalling under load. (Steering wheel at full lock resulting in Max. power steer pump load) The vehicle will stall under these conditions if the idle actuator is unable to compinsate for the load applied. Common problem for MB.. may only need a good clean if your lucky.. Last edited by MattyC; 04-12-2004 at 10:18 PM. |

Welcome to mercedesshop.com and thank you very much for your input/suggestion.
I have, indeed, investigated this; I remain confident (perhaps indignantly so) that the CPS will prove to be the culprit. Time will tell... ![]() |

My Crankshaft Position Sensor cable has been replaced as of 1700 hrs PST SAT 24APR04 (many thanks to Benny Lui).
As of this writing, I have not had enough time to conduct extensive testing; therefore, I will post again after I have driven my 500E for several hours, tomorrow. Stay tuned... |
