I had this same issue when i purchased my 400 E nearly 3 years ago. The car had 64,ooo miles on it and after alot of frustration i used the the cable atached to the accelerator to up the rpm about 150 ...once over 500 rpm's no more issue...adjusted the shift linkage to move it back to the same relationship and have NEVER had the car stall again. I've been pondering the idle bleed screew throat is clogged just enough to keep it from functioning correctly but haven't taken the time to mess with it...lincoln town cars or more specifically the 4.6 liter engine used to have the same problem and the dealership said the clogged idle bleed screw passageway was the problem...and it was...I had one. Good luck. I'll be curious if the tweek is more effective than tightening the cable enough to open the butterfly a split hairs worth.

help, my 94 E500 at 127k miles. just changed dist caps by myself, i tried to rely on my old memory so i did not mark the order of wiring down! appreciate if you could email the connection order, thanx a million. how can i reset asr light?

Are the results of the "fix" in? I read this entire thread hoping to find an end to this. Yep, I have a similar prob in my 400E.

I own maybe 100 t-shirts and they all smell like Diesel fuel and test oil......

I've now got same problem as Scott did, though without making any turning movement. Engine shuts off. All lights on dash light up. Turn key and it starts, then problems repeats.

I'm just beginning to have problem diagnosed, and having read through this entire string, see some solutions for cars of others, but don't see whether a conclusive answer was ever reached. Any advice appreciated.

Thank you. The local independent Mercedes mechanic I use when desparate diagnosed it as Air Mass Sensor, which he replaced and solved problem.

I don't know what "STAR DIAG" is.

For future reference, I just checked out that 500e board site, but do not see why it wants such information as date of birth, so not going any further there.
