I have a 2000 E55 which front pad I am trying to replace with aftermarket pads. Reason being, I am trying to find less dusty (less graphite containing) front pads.

I went to EBC since they have the pads which emits lighter coloured brake dust.

I went to the EBC web site and was recommended EBC pad#21075 for the E55. Upon trying to install these pad, I found out that the EBC pads is much smaller and different (would not fit the E55) than the pair in my E55. Calling EBC tech support does not help since they insist that it is the right pad for E55.

However checking back on the EBC website shows that the EBC recommends the same pad# for (W210) E320, E420 and E55??????. How could that be since it is my understanding that the E55 has different front calipers than the aforementioned models.

Any thoughts

TIA

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/parts/bre01mb__e03.htm

This website has pictures of the pads and the way they look. See if you can spot yours by clicking on some of the other pads for Mercedes. They however also list this same pad for the E55. But they list the e430 97+ as DP2927.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about EBC, but if they don't fit, return them.
Contact Larry at carbotech Engineering. Someone on this board recommended them to me and their knowledge and materials are excellent. They will hook you up with the right pads for your application, rotor and wheel friendly.
Hope this helps.

EBC green pad

Thanks Guy:

I did return the EBC #21075 pad to the dealer. I will try to take the OEM pad and trace it on a piece of paper and compare it with the size data available on the EBC england site.

E55 pad measurement

I visited the EBC UK site which contains the pad size information.

According to the site the E55 uses EBC green pad #21075 which measures 156 x 64 mm

After tracing the stock E55 fr pad from my car I got the following measurment: 192 x 72 mm.

So it does confirm my earlier findings that EBC has the wrong application for the E55. You cannot fit the #21075 to the E55!!!

I just want to give my 2 cents and suggest that you stay away from Carbontech Engineering. I personally have had a VERY negative experience doing business with this company. I do not want to get into the details here but if you require any more info drop me an e-mail.

I've had a surprising little result of a changeover to Powerdisc slotted rotors up front...decreased dust! I don't quite understand as I run OE pads, but the fronts are actually cleaner than the rears.

Braking ability seems the same, and they handled about 100 hot laps on the track, so I'm quite happy

Brake pads

Best brake pads I've found are Porterfield Racing pads. I hear a lot of complaints on the SLK board at MBNZ.org about the greenstuff squealing badly. I won't go into proper bedding procedures here although there is tons of tech stuff over at:

My Roadster

Don't let the name of Jerry's site fool you. He carries Porterfields for just about every Benz ever made. Fast friendly service too. I've dealt directly with Porterfield in the past too, I got about 50,000 miles out of my first set.

EBC pads were "born" to be dustless while the Porterfields were developed as an all-out racing pad and later (as an afterthought more or less) were marketed for their dustlessness. A natural by-product of being carbon-kevlar.

When you do an upgrade like this, you want to make sure you gain performance as well as dustlessness. I could sell you dustless bricks, but they wouldn't stop your car very well .

Go with PORTERFIELD they work great... call him direct in costa mesa cal. he has several compounds for you and also will treat the brake rotor ala frozen treatment it WORKS ....I have used PORTERFIELD FOR YEARS with NO problems his pads/rotors solved the cracking rotors on my porsche turbo-cracks between the cross drilled - no dust/squeak i even have them on my mountain bike w/discs..just my .02
