Ricardo:

You have the most interesting options in your car. They don't even know about them at the Canadian dealers.

Can you provide part numbers for the fire extinguisher and bracket? Also, the trip computer if you can?

Cheers

Dean:

There was a good thread with a part number and drawings from Stevebfl and DTM Fan:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=25031&highlight=OEM+fire+extinguisher

I have been trying to get my dealer to track this stuff down, but it isn't in their US microfiche. I am supposed to check back next week.

Only a true MB obsessive purist (who, me?) would try to track down a Euro part that probably: 1) can't be shipped by air, 2) can't be refilled here, and 3) costs 5 times more than a Kidde extinguisher.

Dean

I called my local Dealer, but it seems like I have to go my self to see on their computer system the exact parts for a 500E. To be sure!!

Any way, I did check on Part # 000 860 22 80 Fire Extinguisher. It is in deed the Fire extinguisher that comes with my car. I had it quoted for $101.29

The bracket has several parts, as you can see in stevebfl's diagram. I was given a part number for a W140 fire extinguisher plastic case, #8 in stevebfl’s diagram: Part#129 860 01 14. It seems like it would work for Fire Extinguisher (000 860 22 80) as well.

You might want to check using this part numbers while, I go to the dealer and get the part numbers for the 500E my self.

I will check on the trip computer as well!!

Regards

Found the Parts

I've tracked down the parts in Germany for the OEM Fire Extinguisher. I'll post a complete listing once I get it and am sure it fits/contains all parts. I'll also attempt to document everything purchased with photo's, though from schematic already provided, it looks pretty straightforward. Cost looks to be shy of $300.00 all-in.

Great news!! I’m sure everyone, will be anxious to see your finding.

Now, since you have the way to track down parts in Germany, I would like to ask you a big favor: I have been asked by many members of the forum, to post a complete listing of all the part numbers of The transmission mode shift selector of my 500E:

If you could be so kind and post the Mercedes part numbers (schematic too!) for this you would make a lot of 500E/E500 owners very happy.

:-) neil
It has been very difficult for me to get the information…maybe you have a better source than me to get it?????

It's just a suggestion, Think about it!!

Best

I'll look into this once my parts guy finishes up on the fire bottle. FYI, any dealer parts dept. can do the research.

As for shift mode selector, won't we need something on the transmission itself? To your knowledge, can a stock tranni on a non-adapted car be modified for such a selector. Do we need new tranni, etc.?

500E's have a tranny that can be update fairly easily.

I don't know about other models.

Thanks,

I know this has been discussed/debated, but from reading above, it looks like 'S' is same as default D setting for un-adapted selectors, meaning My E starts in 2 unless I go WOT, in which case It starts in 1.

So, the end result is we make this change and we pick up the 'E' setting, which doesn't look too appealing to me other than saving a bit of gas. Are my assumptions incorrect?

The shift selector in 'S' is not the same as default D setting for unadapted selectors, when the switch is in "S" allows you to engage first gear without having to engage the kick down button which entails pushing the gas pedal all the way through (go WOT).

It does, Makes the car a bit more responsive, and you decide when to have a 1st gear start or a 2nd gear start.

Now, when the switch in 'E' , 2nd gear start is set as default, meaning that My 500E starts in 2nd unless I apply a kikdown (go WOT) to set off the firs gear, in which case It does starts in 1st.

I see the Transmission Mode Selector as a more cosmetic variance of the ‘1st gear starts Kit’. I use this switch very much in my 500E. Believe me!! It is a sweet option… my other Mercedes comes without it, and I whish it had it.

I’m not a technician, what I’m sheering here, is just my own perspective and a little research on the subject. The expert is Satish Tummala; maybe somebody can get his opinion on the subject.

Thanks for the clarification on engaging kick-down switch vs. not and getting 1st gear. Again, I'll have my guy do more research once he gets back to me with the other parts as Mod look intriguing to me as well (if reasonable $$).
