Talking Nude pics!!!

Here are the latest pics of my 500E in the nude. The panels, headlights and bumpers have been removed. It's currently undergoing a facelift which would include

- new headlamps
- new hood
- new grille
- new hood ornament
- new trunk

Here's a pic of the new hood being prepped:

Here's one with the side panels removed:

Would anybody know why there's a third horn behind the bumper? There are two horns in the engine bay already...

The car's getting a fresh coat of clear coat as well (that's why all the panels had to be removed). I should get it back by Wednesday...all shiny and new...

Makes sense!

Thanks Guido...I always assumed it was tied in to the regular horns. Guess that's what German overengineering is all about!

Rainman

Question...is that the hood that came with the car or is it from a '94...I have a '92 with the old style grill and hood...also, with your new trunk; what is different? Ever set off your alarm?...what a horrible sound that little horn makes...I set off mine yesterday by accident and was sooooo embarassed. Sounded like a wounded bird. BTW,Your car looks super with the Evo II's...I can't decide whether to get those or the AMG 107's like my neighbors Mike Cs 500E. Look forward to the rest of the finished car pics. Later

My car's a 93 and had the same hood as yours. I'm replacing it with a new hood for a 94.

Here's a pic of the car with the original hood:

Here's how it should look like after:

*****in'

That's some trick photography to get 'what it should look like'. Even the tires look like yours. Are they the 245/45/17 size? They look wider. What brand? I like the new look very much...hopefully someone will back into me and I can get all the updated junk. I'll scan my 92' with Euro-lites pic when I can...old school. Tchuss.

The tires I'm using are Dunlop Formula 901s in 235/45 17s. I had originally wanted to get 245/45 17s but had to wait a month or two for them to be special ordered.

I couldn't.

Surprise! Surprise!

I wasn't aware that the 500E came with brake ducts from the factory:

Imagine my surprise! One less thing to do, i guess...

Here's a close up of the left (driver's side) duct:

And here's one of the right:

I was under the impression from reading previous threads that brake ducts were a necessary addition to keep brakes cool during hard braking.

oh, and how come the ducts don't have the same fittings?

Really? Hehe...just shows ya how little I know still about this car!

Thanks for clearing that up. Our engine bays get that hot, huh?

Guess I do have one more thing to spend on....

Bigshot, no insult or flame intended but...why would you want +'96 front end on a 500E???? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your post.

Rainmaker please post your "after" pics. The '94 sure looks cleaner. Btw, did you have to change your rear quarter panels? When I inquired about this update, the Mercedes parts guy said that it was a different part number for rear quarters?

I understand that all the parts that were changed were limited to those that I have had replaced. Even the rear bumper remains the same (i.e. the impact strips do not extend to the wheel well the way those in the other 94/95 W124s do).

I will post pictures as soon as the car is finished...give it a couple of days or so...

In the meantime, can someone clarify whether the 94/95s have monotone paint or not?

I've seen various examples, including those of the E500 Limited, and some of them have monotone paint and some of them still carry the 2 tone paint of the pre-94s.

Here's one with two tone paint:

Here's a pic of an E500 Limited (the last 500 produced) with what seems to be a monotone paint job:

Here's another Limited with a monotone paint job (even the impact strips are body color):

Here's another silver but with 2 tone paint:

Here's a limited with 2 tone paint:

Here's a pic from one of the members of this board (i think) and it seems to have 2 tone paint:

Could it be that either the monotone or the two tone were options for the 94/95 E500s?

Anybody know?

Thanks!
