Talking 0-60 for 99 C 230 Kompressor

Hello:
I bought a 1999 C 230 Kompressor about 4 days back - and haven't done high speeds yet (kinda still being kind to it!).
But, I would like to know if it's considered a good car for achieving high speeds in a short duration (more like, would the engine endure such driver behavior)?
I haven't calculated my 0-60 since I live in a rather crowded area, and having had the car for only around 4 days, haven't tested the car's response.
What is the opinion of the people here on the C 230 Kompressor's ability to get to high speeds quick (how many seconds to get from 0-60?).
I appreciate your time and valuable feedback.
Regards,
Sesh

First off congratulations on your purchase. The C230 K is actually a pretty quick car. Car and Driver got a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds, but once past 8000 miles, it could be even faster. But it sure feels faster.

Thumbs up Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the information - yes it does feel very quick...this morning, approaching my place of work, I had to change lanes rather quickly because a car braked without warning (turning right and no indicator!)...I changed lanes and accelerated without realizing how quick the car was. As a result I overshot the entrance to my office building, and had to make a U-turn...shows me I'm slow in not shifting my mindset from my '97 Camry, which I traded in for this head-turner.
Since this is my first Merc (I'm 26), I am not sure if I should drive in D or 4. What do you suggest (I love this forum very much, since people are full of kind words and advice without being condescending )
Best regards,
Sesh

Think of 'D' as economy and '4' as performance. When driving in 4, the car will shift more aggressively, hold gears longer, and kickdown more willingly. It also consumes more fuel. Often times, when driving in 4, the car will be in a lower gear than it would in D, resulting in higher engine speeds. So on your daily commute, especially stop-and-go, keep it in D. Then, when you want to have a little fun, drop it into 4.

All this is what I've gathered from the transmission on my 98 CLK320, which I assume is similar to yours. Hope this helps.
