Installing a 4 speed into a V8 107
I have compiled the necessary parts needed to install a stick into a V8 107. It is based on parts from an early 350SL. Not the flywheel is balanced to the crankshaft via color code so your results may vary.
Hope someone finds this useful.

You can put a stick shift as a direct fit on early iron block 3.5 M116s and 4.5 M117s. Later alloy blocks come with a different bolt pattern and loose the intermediate flange making the fit much more difficult. If you fit a manual four out of a 3.5 on a 4.5, torque may be a concern and you may want to replace the transmission lower shaft ball bearings by roller bearings.
You say the flywheel is balanced to the krankshaft by color code. What does that mean? I thought these parts were balanced independently so that they could be matched together without having to re-balance the krankshaft and flywheel together. I did fit an independently balanced 3.5 flywheel to an engine which was previously mated to an auto trans. Should I expect problmems? Thanks! Last edited by GGR; 01-05-2010 at 11:24 AM. |
