Talking HID Installed On My 300E!!

I just finished installing a Phillips HID kit on my 300E. WoW! The lighting is 10 times better compared to stock bulbs. Not only are they white, not yellow like my halogens, but they put out more lumens than my brights with my stock bulbs. Only bad part is no brights or flashers with the HID. Also, it looks really cool when you turn them on, they flash,,,then they fade into a light blue for 5 seconds,,,, then they fade into a crystal clear white. Anyway, that was a $300 worth spent, I feel much safer driving when I can see! The pic dose stink, I needed to use my tripod.

$300? wherever did you find them so cheal? I payed $500 for my phillips set, and they were, I found, a great price 12 months ago. is this a steady source that you can share at that price, or was that a once in a blue deal? I would appreciate if you can share your source, since I plan to install a set for my reverse lights, since I have limo tint on my 190 and can't see a thing when backing up at night, save for my outside rear-view mirrors. Thanks in advance.

By the way, your car looks absolutely gorgeous with the Euro's installed, what a magnificent difference a mere set of headlight assemblies can make towards the appearence of an already beautiful automobile! oh, and that grille job? Totally updates the look of the car. good job, and very tasteful execution, man!

Adam- I like HID's but again, you just lost your high-beams like you acknowledged. However, it's not a question IF the electronics on your HID go bad, but when.

If I were you, I'd change the Euro headlamp lenses to 500E lenses so you can use your fogs as headlamps.

Also, Dean mentioned a site that uses Philip -based components to make a HID H4 replacment like yours, but with a HIGH BEAM as well!

Note- I said Philips-based. Philips does NOT engineer these kits. Distributors merely put together the pieces, and change the sockets to H4, H3, 9005, 9006, etc.

Check it out at:

Anyone done this?

Where did i purchsase them? Ebay! I just wait for the deals and buy at my price. Come to think of it, most of my upgraded parts were purchased on Ebay. Thank you for the compliments. It's a hobby I really enjoy. Also, I would love to have HI/LO HID but am not willing to spend $1100.00 for a set....... Maybe on my 500E when i get it.
Thanks!
Adam

Adam: Congratulations on a very sharp and tasteful 300E.

For others wanting to do the HID-thing, another consideration may be the new Catz Zeta lighting system at under $300. They promise 170% increase in light output! Not a true HID system, though.

About eBay...I've been watching a couple of auctions for clear front corner lights for the W124. They are posted by Internet dealers and, when you check out their sites, the prices are lower there then what they sell for on eBay! Go figure.

the only problem with the cats zeta system is that being it that they are not an true HID (read H.igh I.intensity D.ischarge) system, then all they can be, and I have checked them out and know them to be, only a voltage booster...what they do is run stock bulbs (although the kit comes with its own bulbs to fool the consumer) at higher voltages, though at lower currents. therefore the bulb burns much brighter, and although their ballast runs the bulbs at lower currents and they won't burn out as fast as if you up the voltage by other methods, the bulbs are still subject to abuse. Pillips, Bosch, and Hella HID kits are the ONLY way to go, and there are sources that have them at and below the $500 mark. Just my 2¢

Well, for one, you can write to Mike Chavez at www.HIDS4Less.com and tell him that Sisco Matos (myself) from the 190revolution forum sent you, and you will get a set of Phillips HID's with H4 bulbs for only $499 shipped within the 48 contiguous states.

Has anyone installed HID lights on an older sl. I have the euro headlights which take H4 bulbs, so I think I can put in the HID. Any suggestions on where the ballasts go? Can I use the type 1 ballasts, which have to be located relatively close to the lights?

You can basically fasten your ballasts to any safe-temperature, non moving part of your engine bay. You can even use double-sided tape to fasten it to the wheel well (just make sure to thoroughly cleanse all areas involved) or even zip-ties. I just fitted my ballast inside of my euro-headlight assemblies, and it works out perfectly!

I fitted my ballasts under my headlight assemballys. Since i don't have the headlight wipers anymore they have plenty of room, and they are safe from heat.

Unfortunately the hid's do trigger the "bulb out" indicator. Only way i think i can solve this it to use relays or just remove the indicator bulb. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Adam
