If boosting 4-5 psi what effect does this have on compression, I.E. does 5 psi of boost raise your compression 1 point? What kind of horsepower increase will 5 psi of boost give on 9:1 compression motor?
The 190e 2.6l with auto is kind of a dog, so I'm exploring several options to increase power economically.

This thread has definitely peaked my interest in adding a turbo to my benz.
Thanx for all the input as I have learned a bunch!

Dan,
I did the ma6th calculations on my engine and have determined I can make aproximately 250hp with 5.7psi boost. In and around that range is safe and i will have less driveability issues. On the other hand, If i deside to blueprint the engine one day drop in studs and And make it new again. Then i can crank thre boost up to 9.8psi and achieve 300HP!

there are 2 kinds of compression, there is static and dynamic
static compression is the ratio between the cylinder volume at
top dead center (tdc) and bottom dead center (bdc) tdc/bdc=compression ratio
dynamic compression is the running cylinder pressure, it will change as things change the the engine system, ie changing you exhaust will change your running compressionhttp://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Engine/dynamic.htm

mike <---knows nothing about cis, owns a turbo though

Adam:
I would be extrmely happy to get at least 190hp and torque for the 190e. That would make it much more driveable with the a/c and auto, imho.

j9fd3s:
Thanx for the info. I didn't know there was a dynamic compression.

Installing a turbo would definetely be fun and quite a learning experience. I have seen audi and mitsubishi starion turbos go for 40$ on ebay. Of course a rebuild of the turbo would more than likely be needed. When looking for a donor turbo what should I look for as far as wear? Shaft play? Are all turbos water cooled?
Time to start buying books and doing junk yard runs!

Thanx!

Dan,
Here is a site you can do turbo calculations with, check it out!

Adam,

off the topic are you still using the accel ingintion? Thanks

300EVIL 05-19-2002 08:19 PM

Ron,
I am running the accel coil still, sort of..... I have it wired to my jacobs ignition now! Although i did see improvement in spark with the accel I see performance gains with the Jacobs Pak. If you are looking for the performance gains i would spend an extra $150 for the Jacobs and adapt it to your old coil. Let me know if i can help!

Check out this supercharger setup. Cool! (I hope i don't get told off, sued or wacked for posting this) :D

265hp@5500-385Nm@4250 AWESOME!!!

Adam- can you tell us more about this right-hand drive supercharged M103 engine?

Oh, I knew i forgot something. Here is the link!

Hey,

I'm currently looking at a 300E 5-speed with a leaking head gasket and bad valve guides. Was thinking about turbocharging it--dig in, replace the pistons while you got most of the thing open and do it up right.

That TDI-PLC page has a bi-turbo setup for the 300E that looks pretty cool. But their prices are a bit above my range. Thought about the supercharger for my 560 SEL, though! :)

Anyway, are you any further with your project, Adam? I'm very interested in hearing what you end up doing and how you did it.....

Just have to convince the wife it's a good idea! :(

Thanks...

-m,
Lucky You! I wish i had a five speed! Thats a great way to start out too! If i were you, I would rebuilt the whole engine and add APC studs , maybe stiffen up the con rods, add a sport cam, port match the manifolds and install enlarged throttle body. If you still have plenty of cash left go with the Mosselman bi-turbo, stainless custom exaust and 8:1 compression pistons. After that you can tune the suspension and you would have one awesome sleeper ride! Thats what i would have done if i knew 3 years ago what i know now. So far all i have done is research and math! I want be able to drive 100 miles a day without any driveability issues. Like everything i post here it's more than just a dream,,, I do it!

BOOST = COMPRESSION

Actually the correct formula is 3.7psi = 1 compression Ratio

Maddog 05-21-2002 08:05 PM

You do NOT want to use a sport cam on a turbo application. You are better off sticking with the stock cam! The sport cam has higher duration and valve overlap which is only bad for the turbo.

I would love to do this to my 300E as well, but it sounds like you have to practically be a technician to do it :(

Anyone think a local shop would possibly know how to do it? Or is it usually hard to find a shop that would know what theyre doing?

I love the idea of getting the turbo setup without paying the bucks for a mossleman.
