Spark plug wires needed for 2.3-16

I have an '84 euro 2.3-16 and need a new set of plug wires. The current set glow in the dark. I see the spark jumping between a wire and the upper radiator hose and another wire and a metal bracket. Performance Products has a set listed for $212 and the distributor cap for $67. Ouch. I want the proper wires, and black not some pastel color like pink, yellow or blue. What is a good source for wires, cap and rotor?

Hey Robby,

Check out Nology. They have a set of spark plug wires for the 16V. They are like $209 shipped. Also on their website, they say that Rick Ellinger from RC imports uses their wires in his 16V racecars, so you know they must do something.

Later,
Giancarlo

Dew & Giancarlo

Thanks for your help.

My son, daughters and I run into Rick and the RC team from time to time at Summit Point Raceway. Whenever either I or one of my kids spins out or something breaks, the RC team always helps us get the car back on the track.

Cheers,

Robby

I got a return question...
Is it better to change out the distributor cap and rotor when you replace the spark plug wires? Should you also change the spark plugs too?

Thanks,
Giancarlo

Typically shops will change them all out at the same time. You can if you don't want to mess with changing the individual items as they wear out. Years ago I'd change plugs, cap, rotor at the sametime, but I could get a cap for $3, and a set of plugs was a dollar or two.

Now I just do whatever I feel like. Sometimes I change them all out, but more likely I just change the item as it breaks down. The ignition items wear at significantly different rates. Sometimes after a single hard driving episode I can get missing from the plugs. I typically get very high mileage from my distributor parts and wires. From time to time I'll clean the green from dist cap with some emory cloth and polish the rotor. That reminds me that I've even have a plug cleaner around somewhere.
