custom turbocharger

I have a 190e 2.3 8v and I want to custom make a turbocharger. Can someone give me a list of parts that I will need and some recommendations?

I think if you do a search on 190E turbo you should have most of your questions answered. The first thing you'd need is $ + time. A new exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler and fuel management system. I would suggest a brake upgrade (400E calipers or at least the 2.6).

Do a search on my name and you will find a bunch of posts relating to turboing your 190e 2.3 8v. I will have a commercial manifold available in Sept 2003 and I can make you one now if you need one. OR if you want to make one yourself I can tell you how.

I did a search and these are the questions I came up with.

1.Do I need to have an intercooler?
2.If so what size should I get and where would I mount it?
3.What kind of turbo do you recommend?
4.How much boost can I run without hurting the engine?
5.About how much hp will this add?
6.What would I have to upgrade to run more boost?

Thanks

>>1.Do I need to have an intercooler?
If you want to maximize your HP output. with the 8v you can run 10 psi of boost and get about 170 HP without an intercooler.

>>2.If so what size should I get and where would I mount it?
Air to Air is the best but on a W201 it is difficult to mount in the front without sticking out. you will need a front spoiler.

>>3.What kind of turbo do you recommend?
Depends what you plan to do.
for top end use a T4 or t3/t4 hybrid.
for acceleration use a Modified Mitsubishi TD05 or IHI
for good midrange Mitsu TD06 or T3 or KKK
(I recommend the AiResearch stuff because it is easy to get and there are a lot of options.)

>>4.How much boost can I run without hurting the engine?
Depends on your gas and engine mods. If the engine is stock then I would stay safe at 8~10 psi.

>>5.About how much hp will this add?
depends on the turbo and Boost. you should be worrying about how much torque you could maximize.
for a basic T3:
7 psi = 40 hp
10 psi = 50 hp
add 10 to 30% for intercooled. depends on efficiency.

6.What would I have to upgrade to run more boost?
What level? 20 psi? pistons and fuel management. I have run 25 psi on CIS but I installed 4 more EFI injectors and used a Additional Injector Controller.
