First i'm not an oil engineer. I haven't studied how oil breaks down or how it looses its lubricity - or if it even goes bad.
With that said: From 1992-1999 i drove BMW's. The flexible service system they used always had me change the oil BEFORE it turned BLACK. The change was always around 7,000 miles. I now have just under 22,000 milees on the AMG. I had the first service "A" done at 11,300 miles - 1000 before it said it was time - because the oil was BLACK. Now, 11,000 miles later, I haven't autocrossed even once, and the oil is BLACK! again the FSS readout tells me to wait 2,000 more miles. What to do? Does it matter that the oil is BLACK? I tend to think if does. Going with that, I'm having the Service "B" done NOW. My plan would then be to change the oil at 28K miles and have the next Service "A" done at 34K. Thus yielding an oil service change every 6K and an MB service every 12K - which is what the computer is looking for. I used to be the posted boy for "Leave the oil in as long as the car tells you", but i'm now having a change of heart. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks ------------------ Noah 1999 C43 4Noah |
