W124 shift-gate + HVAC console lights (???)

Friends,

I would like to replace my shift-gate housing bulb (which illuminates the "P," "D," "R," etc., positions) and HVAC/console
bulb(s).

Where are the bulbs in question located. please?

(pictures, anyone?)

Scott,

1- The shift indicator bulb is in the side of the shift lever housing. You'll need to pull up the center wood shifter trim to access it.

2- The ACC pushbutton bulbs are inside the pushbutton unit itself. You'll need to pull the wood trim off and yank the unit, find the bulbs, and replace them.

3- Each switch above the ACC unit has it's own bulbs, you need to replace each one individually (I believe).

However I find it odd that all of them are out, are you sure that your fuse is OK and the dash dimmer is turned up?

Regards,

thanks, Dave

do you have any pictures?

specifically:

- in which side of the shift lever housing does the bulb reside?

- once the wood/carbon-fiber ; ) housing is removed, then what?

On the shift lever housing, I think it's on the left side. It should be fairly obvious, I think it's the only two wires that go into the side of the housing. It will "pop" out and the one bulb will pull out of the holder. I don't have any photos, might be able to dig one off the CD though....?

If the shifter console on the 124 is anything like the 201, the bulb is "mauka" of the shifter, a 2w bulb in a holder.

Scott, when I drop by today I will show you where the shifter bulb is. I replaced mines last week. It is located at the top of the shifter housing.

You going to change the color or something?

I've been thinking about replacing a few of the bulbs in my car with red LED's, or putting in red gels...

The real thing to do would be to make the dashboard light up red... Much better for night vision :-)
