Does anyone have any experience with the "1st gear start" valve body? It claims to let your transmission start in first gear all the time, and provide crisper shifting at higher RPMs as well. My car is a 92 400e, and I'm hoping that it would help in performance.
Thanks,
Ryan

Most of the 6cyl Mercedes after 1992 started off in 1st gear because of engine torque. Your car should start in first gear any time you depress the throttle more than 40percent of the way down. I'll bet you will have to replace the tires more often w/1st gear start!! But think of the fun.

MB DOC,
You mentioned the post 92 six cyl cars starting in second. I know that the 500E's started in second...but what about the 400's? With that 2.24 differential (vs the 3.07, 2.82, or 2.65 of the other W124's) 1st is more like second in most cars anyway. Since second gear will take you to about 90mph it seems too tall for even the V8 to pull. My 93 400E always seemed to start in first but then upshifted very-very quickly unless I really "had my foot in it". I remember an inventory on the Renntech page giving a price for a 1st gear start valve body for the 300 and 500 W124's. I didn't see one for the 400's. Just curious...

Also, do you know for certain if 245/50/16 tires will fit under the 500E fenders without any problems. The 92 I'm getting breaks the 225's loose AFTER they are hooked up...in a strait line! These tires are to be mounted on the stock 16x8 rims.

Thanks...Lee
