Poor Starting
Hi all
A friend of mine has problems starting his '79 SLC 450. Once if fires, it runs very rough for a few seconds, then smoothens out. The fuel consumption is also very high. Could these two symptoms be related? Perhaps he needs new injectors? We have already checked HT leads, replaced spark plugs, air filter and had the timing checked by a professional. I’d appreciate any advice you may have to offer. Kind regards KC |

Injectors and their seals are a good place to start. I would also check out the cold start valve and it's relay. The valve may be leaking or supplying fuel when the engine is warm. Do a search - several posts on this.
Other possible culprits are the warm-up compensator and the control valve in the fuel distributor, but testing them is more complicated.
