Idle control valve vs. air slide valve

Hi Folks....
Have a problem with a high idle running between 1200-1500 rpm in neutral with temp at 80 degrees. Have read about the idle control valve being a possible cause but have discovered that for a 1989 560SL, my parts book lists a "air slide valve" instead of a "idle control valve". In any event, any advise on my confusion, or even better, what do I do about the high idle ?
Got AC problems also, but I'll save that for another day !!!

Thanks,
George

I believe they are one and the same. I am experiencing same problems, but my high idle is around 950. I've cleaned mine and had moderate success with the high idle. Less frquent, but still occurs. Do a search on this forum and the SL.com forum and you'll find tips for cleaning.

Before you pay big bucks for a new idle relay or valve, be sure you don't have vacuum leaks, or air leaks in the rubber hoses that feed the idle air. Lots of posts on this as well.

Thanks Chuck for the information. I will follow your advise. I would like to keep, as much as possible, my money on home court. Again, thanks for the reply.

George

Me too. If you have a volt meter, you can check the relay and the valve. Send me an email and I'll send you the procedure off the CD.
