1985 sl280 user manuals--how to buy?
It is like this car does not exist on any Mercedes model lists.
Would a Haynes book covering the 81 engine be OK? I checked European sites on google and nowhere is a 1985 sl280 107 chassis listed as a valid model |

1985 sl280 user manuals--how to buy?
Purchase the Mercedes Factory manual for the 110 engine, it's about 5" thick and covers the double overhead cam six in your 280SL. There are no factory manuals for the Euro 280SL body, however the Part 1 & 2 of the Merc factory manuals for the V8's covers everything on our model as the bodies, panels are identical. Too easy!

Not so ...
The wiring, plumbing, and vacuum for the dual heat controls are very different from the US cars. I am still looking. I did get a wiring diagram for a 107 280SL from George Murphy, but I really need the vacuum setup.
The M110 manual is great, but expensive, and about half of it is for the carb version. If you don't need that, the Haynes manual for the 280 123 cars is OK. All MHO.

I got the official manual on CD for under $30 at manualsunlimited.com...IMHO Haynes is next to useless.

It depends on what you are trying to do. The Haynes 280 book has all the basics for tune-up and valves, the basic vacuum arrangements, and early-1980's FACTORY emissions. Nothing will help on the stuff that was done to an '81 280SL for emissions because the importers all did stuff differently.
The only thing I remember going to the M110 manual for is to get timing specs for a particular distrbutor number.
