my driver side window doesnt work when I use the window switch however it goes up and down with no problem when I take the top down, is it just the switch that needs replacing on the console?
Thanks...... |

window prolblem
You might have a window "jam". Caused when top is up and window channels not aligned properly with window. Window goes OK up and down when no channel to jam against. Check area on window channel when top up. Good luck, Abe G

driver side window
I had the same problem with my 91. The car wasn't used much when I bought it. I squirted WD40 into the switch (used the extension tube that comes with the aerosal can) and put it in the crack between the front of the switch and the console. The window's been working fine for over 2 years now. Did this to the pax switch also (it quit working too), and the power switch for the steerring wheel. Seems the contacts get gunked up sometimes.

I just finished cleaning my rear window switch, mounted in the consol on my 380SE. Believe me, if the rocker switch doesn't work in either direction, you can clean these up to work like new in under 20 minutes. Don't waste time spraying cleaner in when the permanent cure is so easy.
Pop it out and disassemble each rocker. Mine came apart by inserting a small flat blade screwdriver and twisting in the side of the casing that holds the 2 pins on each side of the rocker. You'll see 2 wing shaped contact bars and 2 steel balls, one on each bar. Take the bars out and clean the surfaces, I used a fine brass brush. Scrape the little contacts at the bottom of the case with an X-Acto knife blade or similar. Put a dab of grease on the rocker springs to hold the balls while you gently re-insert the rocker, letting the case side snap back over the 2 pins. Put em back in and you're done.
