Rewiring Fog Lights on W107 450SLC
If you don't like the way the fog lights turn on with the headlights it is relatively easy to rewire them to come on with the parking lights (I like this way personally) and stay on with the headlights. Or you can wire them to come on by themselves. Before you start any of this mods make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable,
1. Rewire to parking lights: As you know on all Mercedes cars I have seen there light switch has a pull out function. Most the first pull out detent is for fog lights, whether optional or standard. I was lucky my 79 450SLC they were optional but the car I bought had them. First you need to take of the panel on the panel cover the fuse box, One screw also holds the fuse box, which also will come off. After you have the panel off, and then the fuse box, you will see there are two additional screws that hold the fuse box. Look at the headlight fuse, which in my car is number 19, or look on the back of the fuse box cover there is a chart of the fuse box. Find the gray yellow green colored wire. If it is not there go back tot he drive side and take off the bottom cover and trace it from the switch. this is the fog light on wire. Remove it from the fuse panel and either rewrite to the which is fuse 13 on my car. Now when you turn on the parking lights and pull the knob on the switch the fogs will come out. Also change the fuse to equal the same amount that fuse 19 is to fuse 13, or you blow fuses like crazy. 2 To wire them to come on by themselves, which was my original idea, you need to find an unused fuse. But my car is loaded with options so that wasn't possible, again the gray yellow and green wire is the one to rewire and use the same value fuse as fuse 19. I am now working on the second pull out, which on my car is not used. I am going to wire a rear fog light, however the standing or parking lights on a 450SLC are fastoon bulbs and so far I haven't found a duel element in this type of bulb. I am trying to figure out how to wire the 7225 bulb and a bulb holder for a rear fog and standing/parking light. The 7225 is the bulb my 99 C180 uses for this arrangement. I do know you would have to run a wire from the second pull detent or N on the wire diagram, now it is connected to fuse 19 the low beans, Why, I don't have a clue as when I pull it out to the second detent nothing happens with the headlights. But I hope to post a how to do soon. Also the rear fog always is on the drivers side. Tip: if your cruise, in most Mercedes isn't working correctly, make sure you have the factory stop light bulb, as this is a integrated part of the cruise control on most Mercedes. Also, if you clicker doesn't seem as loud, make sure the factory turn signal bulbs are used as this will effect the clicker relay. Thanks and enjoy
