Question Any good R129 sites?

I am doing some research for a friend of mine who purchased a 1998 R129SL sport. I want to see if there is any information on the production of this SL and how it differers from the regular R-129SL.

If there are any good site or forums to research please advise?

Thank you
Bob Geco

I don't know about production numbers, but the only difference with the sport package is larger wheels (AMG) and tires (18'').

The Sport was a US only model - and AFAIK was just an option pack that anyone could choose at the time of ordering as opposed to a limited run production model like the Mille Miglia / Silver Arrow etc. You can pick up old brochures on eBay which help. Otherwise try www.oursl.com

MBUSA.com used to have a ten year model overview which included details of the Sport. I understand it had AMG style 1 single-piece alloy wheels, the AMG body kit (consisting of chunky bumper covers front and rear and chunky skirts), and the AMG single exhaust finisher.

Here is a great site with a TON on information. I found it when we were shopping for my 1996 SL600. It has a goldmine of info, and is a great read for anyone.

It's a good read but there are a fair few errors and omissions - by his own admission he has written the article around his own car.

Production Numbers

Bob G., Do a search in the r129 forum over in "benzworld" site. Someone listed 7540 for 1998 SL 500, not sure if there was a breakout for sports though. Great bunch of folks over there BTW.
