Information Please

My car is a 1984 380SL. Today in a parking lot I spotted a car that looked very similar. However, when I walked over to take a good look, I noticed that the 380SL marking was on the right side of the trunk and not on the left as mine is. On the left side were the letters AMC. I also noticed that the wheels were different from mine.
Does any one know what type of Benz this is? Just curious.
