Help with the cleaning around the 560SL emblem
I need some help from you SL gurus. My 1986 560SL does not have screws that attach the emblem to the trunk lid. Is it attached with glue or what? I would like to clean around the emblem but am afraid to pull the emblem off without knowing how to reattach, etc. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

It's done with a double-sided tape like material, and damage-free removal is possible (I've done it) by VERY CAREFULLY edging it and lifting up slightly with a dead CD-ROM disk that you have cut up and made into a plastic "wedge", and sanded/edged one side to a relatively sharp point.
It is likely that you will have to replace the tape when you are finished, which can also be done. Unless it is absolutely required to remove it, I'd leave it and clean with a Q-Tip or something like that.

Emlem removal
I've done it quite easily, I used an old credit card (much thinner than the CD would be) but stiff enough to do the job. Just carefully start at one end and ease very gradually at the corners, you should find it coming loose bit by bit. Work your way along ( don't rush it, or you'll snap it) after cleaning, just reapply new silicone two face tape to the back of the emblem. Of course you will then have to shape it around the numbers with an Exacto knife or likes. Leave the tape backing on until finished. Easy does it, good luck.
