sun visor problem
I fixed the floppy sun visors at the ball end following instructions on this forum. That part works like a charm but now my problem is that the visors are not tight on the horizontal arm that passes through them. The adjustment screws don't tighten with enough friction to keep the visors from falling to the down position. I'm thinking of pulling the visors off the arm, if I can, to see if I can somehow, add some friction to the bar, and, hopefully get the visor back on the bar. Can the visor be pulled completely off the arm and replaced? Also, I'm thinking of drilling through to the back of the visor and placing a screw and nut through the visor to draw the visor tight against the bar. It would look like crap but might work. Has anybody done this? Advice?

On our 76 450SL, the visors had collapsed foam and looked terrible. I cut the vinyl cover at the seam on top(the edge where the shaft is)and took the cover off. First rotate the end of the shaft 180deg-this rotates a lock pin inside and allows you to pull the shaft out. This allows you to remove the plastic gizzmo on the other end of the visor. In my case,I then wrapped new foam around the frame, glued with a spray contact cement and slid the cover back in place. I then lapped the cut edges over and glued. .You cannot see the glued edge when it's reinstalled. In your case, other repairs may be needed, but the R&R of the cover should be the same. Hope this helps.

Try www.jjproducts.net. 1-800654-2356. Jim Bochinni. They sell sunvisors. In my experience once the foam inside is gone there is no hope for a diy repair.
