99 Sl500 third brake lamp out

I assume its the fuse or the bulb, where can i buy the bulbs? WILL AUTOZONE or someone local CARRY them or do I need to go to the dealer?

My third brake light is on the trunk lid

I believe the light bar is a dealer item. Check fuses, but I'd guess it's on the same fuse as the brake lights. Look at the connection at the light bar and the wiring along the passenger side trunk hinge. Could just be a bad connection.

On mine, the PO did something, and the hinge cut the wiring somehow. I had to take apart his mess and fix it up in better way. Light works fine now.

thanks its an array of lights(bar) so probably a dealer item, will check the fuse but the other 2 brake lights work so cannot be the fuse, maybe what you said a loose connection.

The wire on mine broke where it pivots next to the hinge on the passengers side. That is the first thing I would check.

My 3rd brake light was INOP also. Even though they run the wires through a vinyl sleeve, at the passenger side trunk hinge, they still break. My vinyl covering looked brand new, no nicks and/or cuts in it, but my wires were still broke......

Hey, I had this problem too. I replaced all of the bulbs to no avail. Replaced the wires in the sleeve with teflon ones, and all was well again!!!!
