What's wrong with the cluster? Some repairs are quite simple DIY.

The cluster on my 1990 500sl, 67k, was haunted. Speed was off, temp gauge was tempermental and needed tapping to show corect temp and the lights flashing when turn signal was in use.
Repairs cost about as much as a replacement. The origional had 2 small chips where some gorilla had yanked it out before me. The replacement cost me about $400 , no chips, works perfect.Install was easy using the bent coat hanger tool and watching the video 10 times. The hardest thing was judging how far back in the cluster the grab part was. I kept trying to grab the cluster 3 inchec back when it was really inly 1/2 inch back of the front. The cluster came from Potamic-german, other parts I have gotten came from Millers and Adsit Company. My car is almost done, not to much left to replace. Sad and happy at the same time. ![]() ![]() |

I shorted out a loose wire in my trunk trying to repair a faulty tail light, prior to that the dash cluster worked fine .it started running sequence and then totally quit. I have the car at a very good shop called Prestige auto in Edmonton Alberta they tried local and were told it cannot be repaired. We found a shop in Toronto Ont. called Mbclusters.com, anyone know of them,,he sounds like a no bs guy said he worked on 3 1990 clusters, 1 repaired other 2 he could not,I guess it depends on the part #..... will give him a try Brian123 would you have a # or address where you bought yours,MB wants 2k cdn ouch!! and it would be back ordered Thanks guys, this forum is great. I just bought my 500sl at an auction turns out not as good a deal as first thought?????? but were not crying to bad, learning lots about the car ,love the handling and the ride...great cars.

CLUSTER CAME FROM POTAMIC-GERMAN auto parts
http://www.mbpartsonline.com/ Problem was I called 30 yards and distrubitors till I found it. Even at Potamic I called every few weeks for months till they had one in for my specific car. I could have had mine repaired ( forget the shop name in Lancaster Pa )for about $350, but it would have still had the chips on the plastic. |
