500SL Steering Wheel Cap?
Phil Here, In looking to add slightly more Burl wood to my 500Sl, I would like to add a Wood Leather Wheel to my Car, Most Wheels cost between 795-495.00. I have found a company that will re-do my Wheel for 249.00, Not bad. the only problem is that I have to ship them my old wheel and wait 4-6 weeks for the finished product. http://www.exoticwooddash.com/SteeringWheels.aspx
Has anybody ever installed a Steering Wheel cap over there existing wheel? They have one type available on EBay that is very inexpensive, I just wonder if the "Burl" section will match some what close to my Mercedes Walnut Burl in color? I also plan to install a Burl Air Bag center cover to the wheel. Please reply if you have used the Cap that they sell on EBay. 1992 Sweet 500SL Thanks, Phil Justice

I don't think you'll ever know how good it'll look until you buy it and install it. It's one of those things.

I was very unhappy with my wood center cap (where the pad/airbag is, depending on model), and I put a lot of money and work into it, because it didn't fit well on my 85 wheel, and didn't fit at all without some significant mods on an airbag-equipped 126 wheel. Eventually, I got it to look good on the 86, even with a working horn and MB center emblem.
Within one year, it developed enormous cracks in the clearcoat and veneer. My glove compartment also developed one within two years. I'm thinking about sanding down the steering wheel cap and having it three-dimensionally printed with burl and clearcoated with better materials. It isn't like I was in Florida and leaving it in direct sunlight!
