How do you know that it's rich? Sounds more like you're lean or not getting any fuel to the cylinders.

Hello Chuck;
I see white smoke coming from the mufler and I smell gas . Do you think the injectors are stuck , (by the way the car was in the garage for 7 years and the gas was in the gas tank), all this period. Gas tank been changed too . I release the nuts from the top of the FD and press on the plate , gas comes out from each nut and I tighting it back one by one . There is gas coming to the injectors but I don't know If injectors are working . By the way all spurk plags were changed too. How can I check the injectors .And how can I tell if gas are going to the pistons. Thanks again ( you are always a life saver , we are so proud to have a gentelman like you on the Forum) Thnaks again. Sam |

What I think is happening is that you are not getting enough fuel to the injectors to start the car, with the sensor plate at rest. So that's why you have to goose the cold start valve. Now the engine is running and the plate deflects a bit and the injectors get enough fuel to keep it running. But there's not enough fuel to actually drive it.
Remember, just because you get some gas from the top of the FD, doesn't mean that it's being delivered at the correct pressure to the injectors. I know it's not what you want to hear, but if the car sat that long, you need to pull the tank and have it boiled and coated, clean the strainer, change the filter, and purge the lines. Then you need to hook the the fuel supply and return lines together at the engine and run the pump for a couple of hours by jumping the relay. Then change the filter again, install a rebuilt fuel distributor and set the mixture. If you don't go the whole nine yards, you will end up with the same problems in a few weeks or months. Been there, done that. Best of luck.
