engine swap question

Hi,
I'am putting an m110 6 cyl. engine (out of an 280slc) in a 380sl body that still retains the original 380sl tranny...Question is ...will they bolt up or do I need to use the 280slc tranny that has some type of an inch thick adaptor plate bolted to it....I should have unbolted the tranny from the 6 and checked before I set it in...but I didn't, ,,and when I went to put the drive shaft in, I found out that the 280slc transmission needs a smaller plate or yoke in order to bolt up.
Thanks ,
Reggie
