engine swap question
Hi,
I'am putting an m110 6 cyl. engine (out of an 280slc) in a 380sl body that still retains the original 380sl tranny...Question is ...will they bolt up or do I need to use the 280slc tranny that has some type of an inch thick adaptor plate bolted to it....I should have unbolted the tranny from the 6 and checked before I set it in...but I didn't, ,,and when I went to put the drive shaft in, I found out that the 280slc transmission needs a smaller plate or yoke in order to bolt up. Thanks , Reggie Mammoth cave , Kentucky |

On the older MBs, the V-8s had a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing.
Inline engines were one family, V-8s were different. This was true in the seventies, and since the R107 hails from that era, I suspect it is still applicable. Jim

I believe this should all be a bolt in. But I think the trans has to go with the engine and possibly the drive shaft.
Strife I would be interested to know what you getting for gas mileage 380 vs 560. BTW I am expecting my V12 to get better mileage than the 560 due to newer technology. Hopefully we will soon see.

I guess your telling us the SLC drive shaft is too long and the 280 and 380 are different.

The 280slc drive shaft and Rubber is much smaller in diam. where it bolts to the tranny..I only have the larger 380 drive shaft...so I will have to find a drive shaft from a 6 cyl....Reggie

Check with Ron (Melted Panda) or 300SDog. They're both in your neck of the woods and they usually have the oddball stuff you'll need.
