350 SL Heater control
My heater is running hot the whole time, no too much of an issue at the moment, but I'd like control back!!! I have attached a picture of the engine compartment and have identified a possible cause - but I don't know what the parts are called!! - it seems as if a piece of plastic has broken, any help and advice would be much appreciated

You need a heater control valve. The replacement unit is one piece with a built-in vacuum unit. Dealers and the online places all sell them.

chuck is correct, you can manually turn off your heat by disconneting the vacuum push rod and moving lever to off position

Hello,
Yes, the heater always defaults to the heat position for safety so that the defroster is always available. You will have to disconnect the vacuum and wire the valve closed so the spring does not keep it on.

Looks like it has mechanical fuel injection - Is it a euro spec car? North American 350SLs had EFI (electronic fuel injection) Answers by others above should hopefully solve your heater problem.
