'90 500SL throttle hard to push

The throttle on my R129 is very hard to push. Perhaps this is a gas saving feature but its particularly annoying since the cruise control only works intermittently as well. Its so bad I have a sore leg after driving for a couple hours.

Any ideas?

You have a broken accelerator pedal. They wear out and then the linkage no longer stays in the proper place making it real hard to move. The pedal is cheap and is real easy to replace. The linkage snaps in.

Actually, this may indeed be a gas-saving feature. Either I'm getting old or the gas pedals really are a little stiffer than they were on 60's-70's cars.

Thanks LUVMBDiesels, I'll try and figure out how to replace that this weekend.

Nice 560SL, Strife.

So the pedal seems fine, actually. Though it is easier when you disconnect the bottom part from the floor (no pushback).

After cleaning and lubing the linkages it seems that the one I can't reach, way down between the engine and the firewall, is the sticky situation. Disconnect that segment of the linkage at the top and its as easy to push as a Toyota. Too bad the car doesn't move.

Anyone have any experience with this? Any way to get down there and see what the problem is?
