ASR and ABS Dashboard Lights (& Roof Operation?!)

I occasionally have a weird thing happen when starting my 1997 SL320. The orange ASR and ABS dashboard lights stay illuminated. It only happens every few months and usually clears by restarting the car. The strange thing is, when it happens it also disables the roof up/down operation.

Although it is an intermittent (read as notoriously difficult to diagnose) problem, I would be interested to know if there is a simple fix or if anyone else has had this odd combination of errors occur.

hi ian. i know i read somewhere that you can't operate the top if the car is moving or in gear, maybe the asr is telling the computer you're still moving, thus disabling the top control. good luck.

I saw excatly the same thing comming, the ASR and ABS light turning on now and then, until one day it was constantly on, besides a lot of other odd things to follow like no stop light, the top not working now and then, the temp indicator dropping to zero etc...

It turned out I was a couple of bad wires - loose connections - turing into a serious problem over time. Look for bad connections in general, and ground connections specificly.
