Question Hardtop Side Locks

So, I just got my first SL, an '82 280SL. I removed the hardtop and found that the side locks were not configured the same on each side. All the hardware is the same but left side and right side had the different bolts and washers screwed together in two different orders / orientations. Does anyone have a description or diagram or picture of a properly setup hardtop side lock? Thanks!

that's awesome! If you scanned this yourself, thanks a lot. If you found this somewhere, please let me know where. Also, I've got the service manual for my engine but I'd like to get a MB Service Manual for the rest of the car. Where do I get one? Thanks again...

That file was from the MB Service CD. MBUSA used to sell them for $20, but no longer seem to offer them.
I see so-called genuine and pirate copies of the CD for sale on eBay. I can't say if they are any good.

Better Diagram

The funny shaped washer is a soft one. Use a gel lube just a bit spread it thin as it will collect dirt.
Reinstallation onto the car is best with three people. Avoid scratches use ****lots of pads.

Oh! and be sure that the levers on the drivers side that release the locking pin move enough to do so. If the soft top releases then you should be ok. And don't for get the front latches they need to be clean a free moving.

If you remove the heavy chrome seat belt stops behind the seats you can get to the lower part of the locking mechanism,. Clean that up well, it gets a lot of dirt when driving with the top down.

Good luck and don't for get to search the forum and ask questions it will save you grief and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Thanks to both of you for all the tips and files, I got the locks corrected pretty easily. Seemed them both were actually wrong. I was also able to find a copy of the manual online, haven't had a chance to browse through it yet to see what it looks like. Thanks for the help!
