Ugh, High Idle... I know!

Okay, I just spent an hour researching the High Idle Hell many of you (us) have experienced. Mine goes to 2000. Tried an easy fix (replacing accelerator pedal - hey, someone suggested that the little ball on the back may have been broken and not returning the pedal because I can bring the idle down a bit when I stick my foot behind the accelerator and pull towards me) and it didn't work.

My problem seems (?) a bit different from others, though. Besides the high idle issue, when I step on the accelerator, the tranny doesn't drop down a gear, even going uphill... to the point where it kind of bogs down. In all my searching, haven't seen that one. BTW, there is no ABS light, I haven't tried to clean the IACV yet (will do that next) and my Economy gauge works fine (no vacuum leak I assume).

Any other suggestions?? Especially with the tranny issue entered into the equation? Thanks!

Stix
