heater motor

Last winter my heater fan was noisy, so I opened up the cage and cleaned out the compartment and oiled the motor.
I could not get the complete unit installed in one piece so I put in the bottom then the motor then the top, but then I could not get all the clips back on, it's pretty tight in there. The ones I could not get to I used zip ties to fasten but now when I turn hard or hit bumps the fan rubs the case. Does any one have a trick to reinstall those clips, I have tried a needle nose, snap ring plier, and several other contraptions but still not got them in.
