Removing Carpet from Console??

Hey guys,

Has anyone had any success swapping out the carpet sections that are attached to the center console on their car?

I see them for sale separately all the time, but after gentle messing with mine a bit, I can't see how you would ever get it back together & looking very good...

Mine could use to have the carpets changed out, but I don't want to ruin the console either...

Hmm... Very interesting.

Mine seem to be glued in, both to the vinyl console (with a black adhesive) and to the foam rubber backing. I'll have to take a closer look on my mostly destroyed spare to see about these clips...

There are no clips. Just cut old carpet out carefully with a sharp knife. Then insert new carpets in the pocket that remains. Make sure new carpets are same shape as old ones. Did it on my 350SL

This worked well with a combination of a VERY sharp knife & some patience.

Only problem with the old carpets was that that black "tape" that they used to hold them in had turned to tar in my '72. I got it to work, but it left a a bit of a black stain on the the top edge by the console on one side:
