W107 installing antenna rubber gromet--how?

Have an 85 sl280 with power anntenna. The rubber gromet rotted out so I got a new one from Phil. Now the fun has begun.

First of all the grommet has a slope to it. Does the slope point to the front or rear of the car?

How do you install it? it does not slip in from the top over the antenna.
Further the main sealing part of the grommet has a slit indicating that is to cover the sheet metal on both sides. I do not know how that is possible to install from the top pushing down or from the inside of the trunk pushing it up.

Hoping someone has done this and can offer help.

Thanks

Dan

You should be able to unscrew the exposed metal bezel, to give you access to the old gasket for replacement.

There should be lands (flat spots) for a wrench to loosen / tighten it.

1. remove antenna
2. install grommet
3. lube antenna and inside of grommet
4. re-install antenna
5. have a beer...

Need help installing antenna

Hey guys, I was able to get the grommet seated correctly but now I'm trying to install the antenna by pushing through the grommet from inside the trunk, but it doesn't seem to want to go and I'm scared I'm going to break the antenna. Are you sure you can push it up from inside the trunk without removing anything from the antenna?
