New Plug wires do no have platic sheithing like originals...what to do?

So I bought a new set of bosch wires for my 1983 500 SL. The new wires to not have the sheithing that the original wires had right below the air clearner. Should I return them, or cut the original sheithing off and re-connect it to the new wires. Thanks for any advice, Nick.
