dash speaker grills
I need to replace the two radio speakers located in the dash of my 1985
280SL (Euro). They are the originals. How do you remove the two dash grills that cover the speakers? Do they just snap out/ in? Should I pull from the top or the bottom? One is already loose at the top but before screwing it up some "easy steps" from someone that has done it before would be helpful....Thanks Desert |

There are two very small screws at the bottom of each grille, these need to come out. Then the bottom of the grille will have to be pulled out slightly, and then pulled down. To reassmble, it is difficult to get the "hooks" to catch the bar they are supposed to go behind. The trick is to use a piece of heavy card stock, or a used up Home Depot gift card behind the hooks to guide them behind the bar.
There are photos in a 107 audio thread on the Other Site. Scott

Thanks, that's exactly the information I was looking for, it makes it so much easier when you know what you're doing plus it greatly reduces the chance of damage. I'll print it out to have with me when I change them out....Desert

If changing, suggest you install foam baffles behind the front 4" speakers. Make a huge difference in the quality of sound from the speakers. I used XTC foam baffles available from Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras and paid something like $6.00 for them.
