R107 tranny swap?
Hello out there in R107 land! Anyone out there ever swap in a manual tranny? I found a 79 (euro?) 350SE with the 3.5 liter V8 and a four speed manual. Does the 3.5L have the same bellhousing pattern as the 4.5L? Would it be worth it to use a 3.5 especially if it was the higher compression euro? Has anyone done a manual swap with a different trans? I have done auto to manual swaps in other cars before so the basics don't worry me. Just wondering what to start with and if anyone on here has done this. The car is a 78 450SL.
Thanks, Andy. |

Joe Alexander, JA17 on here has a 74 450SLC euro rally car he swapped a 4speed from a sedan into. He's a very good friend of mine, send him a PM.

My euro 280SL came with a 4 speed manual transmission. So the body did come with manual transmissions just not in the US.

The answer is yes, the 4 speed from a 350SE will bolt to the back of a 450SL motor.
