I've been a 123 diesel guy for a while. Want to buy an 80s SL. What's what?

I've had about 6 or 7 of these, I had a 67 Heckfloss and a 74 280SEL.

But I want a convertable driver that will fit my kids and won't break the bank.

Is there a year or model to avoid?

I like mechanical things like windows and sunroofs and such. But I also like ABS.

I don't care about speed at all.

If "I" could put a W123 diesel drive train in one of these I would. (That means if I myself could do it i would, but I lack the skills and patience)

Let me know your thoughts.
