450 slc

Picked up a 73 450 slc. Hasn't seen the road since 2011. Having found much info about these. I own two diesels, no gas burners. Any info would be appreciated.

What specifically do you want to know. Good solid performers. DJET system ,service history is important. Start at the basics. Fluids tuning ect...

Gas Tank ( Behind Panel in Trunk swings Out from Left ) most Likely is all clogged with Ethanol . I would Not Evan Try to run the Car Until You Clean the Tank and Lines from Back to front . I Remove the Return Line and when you get the Fuel Pump going ( it may be frozen ) you can cycle the key on and off until you pump the NEW GAS through the System into a Catch Bottle until Clean and Clear .
Try to turn over the motor by Hand first a complete Cycle unless its " Stuck "

Started going thru the 450, it had all the original paperwork, and service records. The car has 51k original, verified thru receipts I have found in the car. No one has messed with it, and it still has the original Becker radio and the optional separate cassette player. I will be pulling the fuel tank and lines this week. All fluids look like new but i will be changing them for good measure. The A/c still has pressure, and all of the interior is in very good shape for the year of the car.

Pulling the tank is a bit of a chore but is a good idea. But 2011 means sitting only 5 years. You could just remove the strainer from below (Kent at Mercedes Source has a video and a tool that makes that easier) If strainer looks clean, pull level gauge and use a borescope to check out the interior.

You will want to clean injectors. They don't like to sit for that long unused.

Lots of help here and also on Benzworld 107 forum. Also in their sticky called EGV107.

My 72 is almost the same car, so feel free to ask questions.

The 450SLC is a bit faster then a diesel, uses a lot more fuel and drives much nicer then the SL.

D-jetronic parts are getting harder to come by and a little more expensive but not horrible. When you get to asking specific questions, we'll be around to give specific answers.

Best of luck!

As a diesel head, you should know that swapping a diesel into a 107 is close to a bolt-in job...that way you could keep your "no gas burners" claim intact.

Since the 107 uses the same subframe as the 114/115 it's a piece of cake to make things fit...and you'll really like 30+ mpg.

I'm lovin' mine!

...just sayin'
