280 leaking rear main--where to find gaskets?
I am in USA and having difficulty finding a supplier of 280 rear main seal.
Engine has to be pulled so I will want to replace other gaskets such as valve cover and oil pan gaskets. Can not find those either. Maybe I just have to order through the local MBZ dealer and pay thru the nose? Was going to sell the car and then the seal blew. I am guessing this will cost about $3000 to do at a shop and am wondering if I can get my money back or would I be better off selling it as a project car in hopes a good DIY can do this a lot cheaper. The car is in great shape other then the seal. |

Quote:
The engine# is stamped into the top of the cylinder block, left side, a bit aft of the distributor. 153624 is read thusly: 15-too young 36-too old 24-just right your wife may be willing to explain |

You can look the part numbers in one of the free EPC sites. Most of those parts should be the same as a US vehicle of the same approx. year with a 2.8 engine. Yours is a M110.990 which was used int nthe 280 R107 from ''81-'85.
