1978 350SLC 4 speed in 280SL or 560SL? Even possible?
I picked up a 350SLC 1978 that has been sitting dead for 30 years. Has 4 speed and true euro car. Wondering if or how hard would it be to put the 4 speed into my buddies 1980 280SL or ever wilder idea in my wifes 560SL?
Car is rusty and not worth saving so it has to be parted out... Any ideas, Brent |

The clutch housing does not mate with the M110, and the input shaft is too long even if you were to find the clutch housing for the six cylinder.
With some work on the intermediate plate the package could be used with the M117 in the 560. |

No, the earlier M117's are different. You're probably better off adapting a Getrag 265 but you can use the pedal box.

If you can find the special bell G265 housing. Good luck on that. The 3.5 trans will bolt to an iron m117. The problem with the 5.6 even after you get them to bolt together correctly is the crank position sensor and fact that you will need to modify the flywheel with the position marks for the CPS or abandon the 5.6 spark management and basically the CIS-E. That’s probably why you see a bunch of 5.0 with getrag 265, but not too many 5.6. It’s probably not that hard to replicate or replace the CPS system, but just another hurdle for CIS-E that you don’t have to deal with on 1985- cars.
