Removal/Installation of soft top cover moulding
I've obtained an OE soft top cover moulding to replace a damaged one on my 107 (1987 560SL). On inspection of the presently installed piece from the underside of the soft top cover, I see nuts that hold the moulding on. However, on inspection of the new piece that is to replace the old, I see nothing on its underside except a slotted track.
I'm suspicious that the threaded pieces on which the nuts are threaded, must be loose, individual, sliding pieces that must be reinserted in the slot of the new piece before it can be applied. Would appreciate confirmation of this, or a correction with advice on the best procedure for removal and then replacement. My paint is the original and I sure don't want to mess it up. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

J,
If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the soft top? I need another and have noticed some on ebay for about half. Thanks, rob

Rob,
You are absolutely correct. You'll have to take your sliding pieces and use them. The moulding is in left and right pieces. Get someone to help you and you can avoid scratching your paint. My top was brand new and installed when I bought the car in Raleigh last June. BTW there is a fine MB shop there, called the West German Garage. Nice fellow named Henry. Regards, Jay |
