560sl convertible soft top..which one?

I need to purchase a new convertible top for my 560sl. The 75 degree weather here on Sunday reminded me that it is time. The stiching has started dry rotting so much the back window is now gone.

I know you can get them on ebay and some other websites. Does anyone have any suggestions OTHER than the dealership. I just can't afford the OEM.

Thanks in advance!

I had mine replaced last year. If you've ever seen the instructions on how to go about replacing a soft top, and have never done anything like it before, you better consider having someone do it for you!! Especially if you want it to look good and fit properly. It would be foolish to spend $300-$400 on a top, do it yourself, and have it look like crap and possibly leak, on an otherwise nice car. I had mine installed by a professional upholstry shop for $800. I didn't want to spend the money either, but it's not an investment that I'll have to make again for a long time. Check out this thread for installation instructions:http://www.worlduph.com/mbtopinstall.htm
Best of Luck. BOB

I bought my top from Cabrio World and installed it myself. The top was just under $400 shipped. You might try asking upholstry shops if they'll install a top that you give them. If they'll do it for $200-$250, I'd let them. It's a lot of work.

You can do a search in this forum for more information on installing it yourself. I know I've posted several times over the last year on this subject.

Thanks Mike..

I have an upholstery person that will do the work..$300 and the top is coming from GAHH. Total of around $750 for the job.

Sound reasonable?

That's sounds good if it's a reputable shop. I got a $1200 quote for replacing the top on my car (from the shop used by the dealer), and that's what prompted me to do it myself.

Mine was $800 installed, so $750 certainly is reasonable. The shop that did mine also does some of the antique cars for on of the large collection of cars owned by a local bank. I figured if they were good enough for them, they are good enough for me. Best of luck. BOB
