'86 560 SL engine misses
The engine in my 560 SL misses but not all the time. I have 103,000 miles on it. It idles rough but most of the time as soon as I accelerate it smooths out and then other times it will run rough until I get home. Any ideas?

hrm... a little more info needed... is this all the time? just when starting? What is your idle RPM? Have you checked to see if the engine is idling lean? What fuel injection do you have? (I think it might be K-Jetronic, but not sure... the later 450's had it)

Thanks for responding, I just bought the car and this is all new to me, but it doesn't miss all the time. I can drive it for 50 miles and it runs perfect and then all of a sudden it starts missing. The miss isn't real bad but just bad enough that it takes the fun out of driving it. Sometimes it will miss as soon as I start it up.
The records that came with the car shows that the plugs were changed about 30,000 miles ago, I checked them and they looked good. The rotor did have some corrosion and pits, I cleaned it and it ran smooth when I started it up and ran it for about 30 miles, then it started missing again. I believe it has the K-jetronic. |
