Windscreen Attachment

For you guys who have windscreens....How do they attach to the car and how "easy" are they to put up and take down? Do you leave yours in all the time?
Thanks,
Mike

They are ridiculously easy to attach. You basically put your roll bar up a few inches, the screen is foldable and has 2 sections, the top section you have straps that you put around the roll bar, the bottom section just has tabs that insert under the trim. You can either manually put up the top section without the roll bar, or you can put the whole roll bar up and the screen stays up with it. Very convenient. I leave mine in always, although Im sure I will take it down next winter.

Thanks for the info, but I have a 450 Sl with no roll-bar. Wonder how it works without the roll-bar???

Mike,

It is still very easy. I have a 560SL and usually leave the windscreen on. It is held by two quick release clips that clip under the boot lid. There are in addition, two plastic hooks that pressure fit to the boot lid as well. The windscreen can be manually lifted up or down, depending on your mood while in the driver's seat. You will find that having it up makes your driving more pleasureable. There is even enough clearance so that the soft top can be put up with the windscreen up as well. It is definitely a worthwhile investment.

Thanks slbenz!!! Do you mind if I ask where you got yours and about how much you paid?

Mike,

You should try a Mercedes dealership called Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach, CA. They used to sell the windscreen for our cars for $267.00. Not sure what the price is now since I bought my several years ago. Here is their web site address: http://www.fjmercedes.com/mbcenter/b/index.jhtml. Also, their toll-free phone is 800-328-3095. You may want to check out the January/February 1998 issue of THE STAR magazine which has an article on the exact windscreen you are looking for. You will also find the Fletcher Jones ad in there advertising the windscreen at the $267.00 price. Almost forgot, included with the windscreen is a vinyl zipped case so that you can stow and protect it in your trunk. Hope this helps.

Windscreen

I received my windscreen today, from Performance Products ($285 incl. shipping). I took advantage of their current 15% discount.

It took under 2 min to install. No drilling, etc. Is well designed, attractive, and IT WORKS (but you need to have both windows raised).

It folds back or can stay upright, even with soft top up.

The only drawback is diminished clarity when viewing through the rear view mirrow.

I'm happy with the purchase.
