Question Need suggestions for restitching conv top windows.

My top and windows are both fine, no need to get them replaced. But the stitching is starting to come out of the sides of the rear window, enough where I can stick my finger into the hole. Im worried about leaks and stuff.

Any suggestions?? Im wondering if, with the right thread material, I can stitch this up myself. Or is this something a shop can do? The holes are only an inch or so large.

Just so happens I was at the body shop this morning getting an estimate for some bumper paint and scratch removal. They noticed my "glass" was rather yellow and offered to replace it for $800. WOW!! A guy can buy an entire new top for about half that much. But, I would guess that a top shop could do this work. But how much should it cost? If you get an estimate, please post $ here. Tod

I forgot to mention in the above post, $800 was for all 3 pieces. Tod

Just had my windows done on the 96 sl 500. Total cost for the three windows $450. I also had a quote for $800 plus, which was for the german plastic. But assured by my top guy the new plastic he was using was more scratch resistant. Time will tell. but if it lasts only 4 years i'll be happy, it is half the cost

Did they remove the top from the car to do this, or were they able to do it in-place?

I'm going to need to do this pretty soon. My top is in great condition but the rear windows, especially the middle one, are beginning to crack where they fold...I put my top down a LOT. But it's worth it...

What they do is take the rear section of the roof off. Take out old windows and stich in the new windows, then replace rear section of top.

How big a job is taking that rear section off? I might prefer to do it myself; I don't trust many of them not to scratch the car or worse...

Just got a quote from a top shop that came highly recomended. He said he would restitch my rear window up for $60, or replace my top with an OEM one for $850. I think Im going to replace the whole top, its a little beat up anyway.
